The Park Theatre’s ‘Live & Local Songwriters’ Showcase’ is an intimate evening featuring some of the Capital Region’s favorite songwriters. The third Songwriters’ Showcase features Josh Morris, Sydney Worthley, Kyla Silk and Marty Wendell live on May 25th, 2023! 
Hosted by performer, producer and engineer, Josh Morris (Josh Morris Band, Girl Blue and more), these ‘artist-in-the-round’ performances will give audiences the opportunity to hear local musicians’ songs and the stories behind them.

Josh Morris (host):
Josh occupies a musical space that defies genre and expectation. He was handed a pair of drumsticks at age 5 and since then, he has transformed into a titan of musical potential. At 25, he is now a multi-instrumental songwriter, producer, session musician, and touring musician. His music can uniquely be described as “Sounds For the Many”. There is something for everyone in his writing. Whether you’re looking for a vulnerable Singer/Songwriter with uncertainty about the future, a Hard Rock connoisseur, an Indie kid with DIY roots, or a Stevie Wonder enthusiast with an affinity for Funk and Soul, you can find it all here. Josh wears many hats but they all fit his head. So dive in, you may love what you find.

Sydney Worthley:
Sydney Worthley is a singer-songwriter at heart but when she steps on stage all bets are off. Each song starts in a corner of a room, pulling inspiration from Phoebe Bridgers and Taylor Swift and ends on a stage, piecing alt-rock tunes from her 2020 EP with unreleased personal ballads. At 17 years old, Worthley released “Rose Colored Glasses” amongst an unforeseen pandemic. Coming of age, long lost connections, and learning from haunting mistakes are all themes of her 2020 project. Songwriting has always been a cathartic experience for Sydney and that has remained unwavering.

While in isolation, the singer/songwriter had time to overthink and agonize over unresolved plans and lack of creativity. The result? A slow-forming upcoming project. Starting in November of 2022, Sydney Worthley put out her lead single begging the question “How Soon Is Now?”. This song deals with heartache, the aftermath of changing who you are to fit someone else’s needs, losing all feeling, and grieving for a person who is still alive. The desolated lyrics are contrasted with an 80s synth pop production style similar to Maggie Rogers or The 1975. Worthley invites you to take a look into her mind filled with disco balls, dreamy synths, and glittery tears. When all the dust– or glitter– settles, it’ll leave you to wonder how soon is now?
Mere months after the release of “How Soon Is Now?”, Worthley releases her most honest song yet, “Heart Shaped Mess”. It seems that her 2023 resolution is to break down walls and introduce a more vulnerable version of herself. Visuals of burning down the past, trying to clean a stained version of herself, and a first date at the mall. The song grabs your attention with striking detail and an easy hook that will be hard to forget– almost mimicking the repetitive line, “how can I forgive you, when I can’t even forget you?” Throughout this track, Worthley expresses numbness, feminine rage, guilt, and every emotion that comes with the territory of heartbreak. “Heart Shaped Mess” encapsulates sad girl autumn…or winter.
This year, Sydney Worthley is setting goals to release several new singles in anticipation for an unannounced project. Prepare yourself for topics of growing pains, raising your standards, speculating about the one that got away, imposter syndrome, and so much more. Sydney Worthley is always allowing herself to grow and evolve, no matter how daunting it may be.

Kyla Silk:
Kyla Silk is a 22 year old singer-songwriter from Long Island, New York.
Kyla Silk is a 22 year old singer-songwriter from Long Island, New York.
From a young age, Kyla began sharing her talents to friends and family at birthday parties, block parties, school and summer camp events. Her father, country soloist Ed Silk, began exposing her to the bar scene as his soundcheck act, as she played at the Curiosity Shoppe in East Meadow. In 2012, Kyla began volunteering her talents to the Thomas Reynolds Foundation, an organization created to raise awareness for Ependymoma, a rare brain cancer that affects young children like Thomas.
In high school, Kyla began her involvement in church choir, musical theatre, and a jazz group called Firebird Swing. Kyla enjoyed performing in the ensemble of various music groups, as she developed her sound as an independent artist.
In 2017, she began her studies at The College of Saint Rose in Albany, where she studied areas of the music industry such as recording engineering and production, live performance and studio recording techniques, and the music business. She was highly involved within the program as a recording ensemble member, featuring in groups paying tribute to Aretha Franklin, 70s Funk, Queen and more. Kyla was signed with Rose Record Label Group, a student run label at Saint Rose, for three years, releasing her singles “Gone” and “Inspiration”, and her debut EP “Garden”.
She graduated in August 2021 with a Bachelors of Science, and continued her residency in Albany, as she began to establish herself as an artist in the Capital Region. Kyla is a lead vocalist for the Silver Arrow Wedding Band Network, where she has been performing throughout the Northeast for four years now, expanding her network and spreading love to newlyweds and guests. Silk is also a member of the band Code Groove, a funky cover group in the Capital Region that is currently sweeping the area with their funky sound and high energy concerts.
Kyla Silk is a freelancing session vocalist, live performer and songwriter.
Her musical sound expands and crosses genres between folk, rock, blues and soul. Kyla hopes to use her music to inspire human connection, raise consciousness, and radiate light through truth and wisdom. She hopes her music encourages her listeners to connect with their truth as well.
In her free time, Kyla loves to spend time with her cat Lucy. She also loves to be out in the sun, listening to an array of good music, snacking on something sweet and spending time with the people she adores. Silk is hoping to continue expanding her network as she plans her travels throughout the United States. Influenced by Sun Records artists, Marty entered a church talent show where he sang in front of a live audience for the first time. Almost half a century later, Marty Wendell continues to enjoy performing for enthusiastic audiences. He has shared the stage with some of the greatest artists in early rock and country music to R&B and folk including T. Graham Brown, Carl Perkins, John Anderson, The Hager Twins, Maskman and the Agents’ Harmon Bethea, Arlo Gutherie, The Platters and Shirley Alston Reeves to name a few … And Johnny Cash.
Since 1998, Marty has had the pleasure of collaborating with his son Sean—a musician in his own right—as co-writer and producer. Although he began as Marty’s roadie at age 12, Sean and Marty first performed together when Marty opened for Arlo Guthrie in 1993 at the Berkshire Performing Arts Center. Their first recording project was Labor of Love, Marty’s first album with Orrensong Recordings. Several albums later, Orrensong released It’s Just Me, a solo project featuring Marty with his own material and his guitar, celebrating a milestone of 40 years as a singer, songwriter, and recording artist.
