Midsummer Madness – A Shakesperience

In Midsummer Madness, Will Kempe’s Players will mount Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream: And they won’t know who’s who– The cast list will come out in front of you! We will be recast each performance, live and in person, and take the stage with a new combination of characters. We will swap our scripts and speed-design our show, choosing our costumes and props in a race against the Clock Until Curtain. Much like in Elizabethan England, we will be collaborating with one another to create a piece of theater that is based in our deep love for and knowledge of the story: Without the ability to rehearse or codify our choices. At Midsummer Madness the audience will be encouraged to interact at their own level of comfortability, ranging from responding to cue cards, helping us select cast members, and even possibly taking on a small role themselves! Our “Shakespearience” hopes to explore Original Practices by creating space for controlled, creative, collaborative chaos and inviting the audience to explore along with us.
