Nosferatu, A Symphony of Horror

Nosferatu, F.W. Murnau’s unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” is a widely acknowledged horror masterpiece, revered as one of the scariest Dracula adaptations ever filmed. The mysterious Count Orlok summons real estate agent, Thomas Hutter, to his remote Transylvanian castle in the mountains. Upon arrival, Hutter learns that the eerie Orlok seeks to buy a house very near his own, a home Hutter shares with his beloved wife, Ellen. They seal the deal, but Orlok’s vampiric nature is soon revealed, and Hutter – fearing Ellen could be in grave danger – struggles to escape the castle. Meanwhile, Orlok’s faithful servant, Knock, prepares for his master to travel to his new residence. Max Schreck, Gustav von Wangenheim and Greta Schroeder star in Nosferatu.

Returning to Proctors by very popular demand, the Andrew Alden Ensemble’s exciting score for this iconic classic creatively compliments the horror of the film, as well as its magnificent storytelling.

This is the third installment in “Horrors of Noir” collaboration between ICFS and Union College Film Studies. It will be introduced by Ericka Nelson Mukherjee, associate professor of German studies and director of gender, sexuality and women’s studies at Union College.
