Peter Davis

Of the scores of musicians billed as “versatile,” Peter Davis may be most deserving of the accolade. Accomplished on an astonishing variety of instruments, including clarinet, alto sax, 5-string & tenor banjos, piano, tenor and 6-string guitar, whistle and hulu-si. Peter boasts an intuitive approach to all manner of traditional folk, blues, vintage pop and jazz forms. He has performed nationally, and internationally, with Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, The Prairie Home Companion House Band, Papa John Phillips, Annie and the Hedonists, the Whippersnappers, the Clayfoot Strutters and others.

For 12 years, Peter Davis was the Program Director of The Flurry Festival of Traditional Music and Dancing. He is known to Capital District audiences as a member of the WAMC Dancing on the Air Orchestra, and Reggie’s Red Hot Feetwarmers, the house band at Saratoga Race Course each summer. With Peter, Paul and George he has done elementary school residencies in over 500 schools, spreading the joy of traditional music and dancing. Since 1989, Peter has been on staff at Ashokan Western and Swing Week, where he teaches chord theory, improvisation, and leads dynamic group singing sessions. At this special Caffe Lena show, Peter is stepping out of his side man role to perform solo. Peter has played many styles of music professionally.- bluegrass, old time fiddle music, swing, New Orleans jazz, pop and rock and roll – so expect anything, but be ready to sing along and have fun!
