$18.64The year was 1964. The place: New York City’s Greenwich Village. Danny Kalb, a young acoustic blues guitarist recorded two songs on an Elektra Records compilation album of various artists entitled, The Blues Project. Not long after the album’s release Kalb traded in his acoustic guitar for electric and formed the Danny Kalb Quartet. That lineup included Kalb on lead guitar, Roy Blumenfeld on drums, Artie Traum on rhythm guitar, and Andy Kulberg on bass, with guitarist Steve Katz soon joining the group. When vocalist Tommy Flanders was added, the band was renamed The Blues Project. Session musician Al Kooper was invited to join the following year. Nearly six decades later, Blumenfeld is the bandleader and manager. The Blues Project has released 14 albums to date, with 2023’s Evolution the most recent.
