Vomit Forth (w/ Sinelus, Invoke Thy Wrath, Tyranize, Intrusive, Beasteliaphiliac)

February 25 @ 5:00 pm - 11:30 pm

It’s a pummeling night of molten death metal at Empire Live in Albany, featuring Vomit Forth and guests Sinelus, Invoke Thy Wrath, Tyranize, Intrusive, and Beasteliaphiliac.

NORTHEAST DEATH METAL. No one epitomizes the sound of harsh winters, boiling summers and blunt, in-your-face, no-frills death metal more than Connecticut’s VOMIT FORTH. While the quartet’s Century Media debut, Seething Malevolence borrows from a blueprint pioneered by East Coast death metal legends like Internal Bleeding, Scattered Remnants and Cryptopsy, peppered with New York hardcore’s snub-nosed brutality, Seething Malevolence is the next step. The sound of music pushed into the red – and staying there until it bends, snaps and breaks.

“We wanted to change how people looked at death metal,” says vocalists Kane Gelaznik. “We wanted to add new layers to it.” VOMIT FORTH’s first full-length LP, Seething Malevolence is an acid-addled sound-bath that expands on their previous demos (originally issued on through Maggot Stomp, and later with added tracks including VOMIT FORTH’s cover of Brutal Truth’s “Ill Neglect” via Century Media), in a way that is unexpected and ground breaking. It’s an album that echoes death metal’s barrier-bursters while putting VOMIT FORTH next to some of today’s most resonant and cathartic noise-mongers including Full of Hell and Pig Destroyer. “We felt like people were hopping in that didn’t necessarily like the genre,” Gelaznik explains. “Modern death metal needs to be more than this archetypical, neanderthal, dumbed-down sound. We want to add something real and challenging to the genre and make it more legitimate.”

From the band’s formation in 2017, VOMIT FORTH excavated the crypts of their native coast’ s under rated, yet prodigious death metal ancestry – the sound of Northeast death metal. “There is that specific, Northeastern sound that you hear with bands like Suffocation, Internal Bleeding and Pyrexia,” explains Kane. “There’s not too many bands that are doing that. We want to put that East Coast sound back on the map.” Kane recalls the impetus for VOMIT FORTH being drummer Nick Herrmann, bassist Tyler Bidwell and guitarist Ricky Brayall’s love for that blunt sonic approach and a determination to fill a bloody, gaping void in the fabric of extreme metal. “Once Nick turned me onto bands like Ripping Corpse, I was all in,” the vocalist recounts. From there, VOMIT FORTH shared countless club and VFW hall stages alongside the likes of Suffocation, Gatecreeper and countless death metal and hardcore bands, earning themselves a rep as a lethal proposition in their own right.

Seething Malevolence’s opener, simply titled, “Untitled” makes it clear that VOMIT FORTH isn’t afraid to push boundaries. US noise-monger Prurient (AKA Ian Dominick Fernow/Vatican Shadow), reached out to the band wanting to work together. The result was a piece Prurient created that became the album’s disquieting into. “We didn’t even know he liked death metal but, as it turns out, he is a very much of a death metal elitist and out of the blue, he hit us up and asked, ‘I want to collaborate with you guys – what can we do?’ I patterned a lot of the programming work I did on the record based on his work.” The band also credits their love for the likes of Napalm Death for the short-but-sweet brevity of songs like “Eucharist Intact” or “Severely Wounded”. “(Napalm Death’s) Fear, Emptiness, Despair was a huge influence on us,” says Kane. “It’s more experimental but still direct and to-the-point. I’m not a fan of riffs for the sake of riffs. That’s why we covered Brutal Truth (“Ill Neglect” on the 2021 Promo EP).

While recording for Seething Malevolence began in the midst of 2021, VOMIT FORTH took a break from the studio for their first full US tour in the fall with Century Media (and former Maggot Stomp) labelmates, Frozen Soul and Sanguisugabogg. “That tour was really important for us, not merely for the shows and exposing us to different crowds. But it proved a lot to us as a band. We thought we were the odd band out and then we talked to Devin from Sanguisugabogg, he put it in perspective for me – every single band on that tour sounded different! That’s the whole point of VOMIT FORTH. Death metal isn’t this one thing.”

The weeks of roadwork paid off when the band returned to the studio to put the finishing touches on the album. “I probably recorded and then re-recorded my vocals four times!” the frontman admits. That meticulous attention to detail speaks for itself on tracks like the album’s anthemic title track or “Predatory Savior”. With a brutish and bellicose mix from Arthur Rizk (Power Trip, Tomb Mold), VOMIT FORTH is poised to open up new chapters for sonic extremity.

“I see death metal changing, bringing that Northeast style back but also expanding upon it,” says VOMIT FORTH’s frontman. “We’re always going to be a death metal band but we don’t want to stay in one place. That’s what VOMIT FORTH is really about.”
