What Blooms in Moonlight? An Art Happening and Celebration of Returning Light
December 15, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
What Blooms in Moonlight? An art happening and celebration of returning light.
Join us for an evening of artwork, music, and ecstatic dance.
Kim Tateo is an interdisciplinary artist passionate about creating work that inspires and uplifts others. During the event, she will create an improvisational work of art, including sound and live painting. The sound portion will collaborate with Connor Armbruster (Violin) and Sam Torres (Sax and Electronics). After the performance, there will be an ecstatic dance session led by Nicole Romanelli of Moving Peace. Ecstatic dance is a type of movement with no rules or steps. It encourages participants to move their bodies freely and have fun.
The side gallery room will feature paintings from “What Blooms in Moonlight”. “What Blooms in Moonlight” refers to a series of works about finding hope, joy, and bliss even in stressful and hard times. These are not meant to bypass hard feelings but to learn to sit and hold space for everything. By painting her feelings, she aims to find equanimity, actively choose joy, and see what can bloom.
The painting created at the event will be available for purchase, with 100% of the proceeds going to an organization in the community. Participants are invited to recommend an organization, and a name will be drawn randomly at the event.
Click here to suggest an organization before the event. (You can also suggest one at the event and we’ll add them to the drawing bowl.)
This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by The Arts Center of the Capital Region.
