Who Killed Hazel Drew – Big Screen Film Premiere
May 22, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
$18Over 100 years after her unsolved murder, newspapers around the globe once again buzzed with excitement. The world learned that the inspiration for the iconic Twin Peaks character Laura Palmer was the double life of nineteen-year-old Hazel Irene Drew.
We all have a childhood ghost story that sticks with us. Just such a story inspired Twin Peaks co-creator Mark Frost while spending summers with his grandparents on Taborton Mountain in rural Sand Lake, NY.
Betty Calhoun, Mark’s grandmother, often shared a bedtime ghost story. He said “it was a cautionary tale.” of a young woman who haunted the nearby woods. The story evolved from the actual murder of 20-year-old Hazel Drew.
“Who Killed Hazel Drew” is a 96-minute feature documentary that follows the journey of modern citizen detectives as they work to unravel the unsolved murder of Hazel Irene Drew.
The documentary introduces new evidence, a previously unknown suspect, and brings new light to Hazel’s final walk to Teal’s Pond.
Evidence uncovered during the 1908 murder investigation points to city politics, corruption, a love affair with a wealthy man, and a promise of marriage that ended with death.
Hazel, a stunningly beautiful domestic servant, lived a double life in Troy, NY. Known for its abundance of Tiffany windows and plagued by notorious corruption at every level of politics and law enforcement, Troy was a city full of opportunity and danger.
Learn how beauty, power, and Troy’s Victorian culture led to the brutal murder of Hazel Irene Drew.
Please join us for the big-screen premiere, including a brief historic setup discussion with Rennselear County & Troy City Historian Kathy Sheehan.
