SUMMARY:Captain America - Unseen Original Cut (1990)
DESCRIPTION:Think you’ve seen director Albert Pyun’s Captain America? Think again! The producers famously butchered the film\, but promised they’d release Pyun’s more complex version at a later date. They did not. And though a frustrated Pyun did later lend his name to a so-called Director’s Cut\, it turned out to be the studio’s bastardized version with a bit of extra footage tossed at it. Though Pyun did not live to see his original vision released\, his wife rescued his workprint and has made it available to fans for the very first time. And what a different film it is! Is it a great one? Not quite. But it’s a hell of a lot better than what the studio released. That said\, this IS a 36-year-old workprint\, meaning that it has pops\, cracks\, and worn-out shoe leather. And yes\, the Nazi villain is still inexplicably Italian. Still\, you don’t want to miss this. It will give you a whole new appreciation for the Albert Pyun Pyuniverse. Rated PG. 113 minutes.

SUMMARY:The Audience (2026 Encore)
DESCRIPTION:Returning to cinemas for the first time in over a decade\, Helen Mirren plays Queen Elizabeth II in the Olivier and Tony Award-winning hit production\, directed by Stephen Daldry. For 60 years\, Queen Elizabeth II met with each of her 12 prime ministers in a private weekly meeting. This meeting is known as The Audience. From Winston Churchill to Margaret Thatcher and David Cameron\, the Queen advised her prime ministers on matters both public and personal. Through these private audiences\, we see glimpses of the woman behind the crown and witness the moments that shaped a monarch. Peter Morgan’s Netflix phenomenon The Crown was based on this hit play that was captured live from London’s West End in 2013 and went on to become one of the most-watched National Theatre Live productions. \nhttps://www.ntlive.com/

SUMMARY:Alash
DESCRIPTION:Masters of Tuvan throat singing\, a technique for singing multiple pitches at the same time & blending Tuvan styles w/ modern influences. \n\n\n\n\nAlash are masters of Tuvan throat singing (xöömei)\, a remarkable technique for singing multiple pitches at the same time. What distinguishes this gifted trio from earlier generations of Tuvan throat singers is the subtle infusion of modern influences into their traditional music. One can find complex harmonies\, western instruments\, and contemporary song forms in Alash’s music\, but its overall sound and spirit remain decidedly Tuvan. They are also masters of traditional Tuvan instruments. \nTrained in traditional Tuvan music since childhood\, the Alash musicians studied at Kyzyl Arts College just as Tuva was beginning to open up to the West. They formed a traditional ensemble and won multiple awards for traditional throat singing in international xöömei competitions\, both as an ensemble and as individuals. \nAlash first toured the U.S. under the sponsorship of the Open World Leadership program of the Library of Congress and the National Endowment for the Arts. Since then they have returned many times\, to the delight of American audiences. The Washington Post described their music as “utterly stunning\,” quipping that after the performance “audience members picked their jaws up off the floor.” \nAlash enjoys collaborating with musicians of all stripes. Since their early partnership with the legendary Sun Ra Arkestra\, they have joined forces with musicians across the spectrum—from country to classical to jazz to beatboxing. Alash appeared as guest artists on Béla Fleck & the Flecktones’ Grammy-winning holiday CD Jingle All the Way (2008). They joined Chicago’s innovative Fifth House Ensemble in a groundbreaking concert series called Sonic Meditations\, and later were part of a “global jam band” which recorded the soundtrack for the video game The Pathless. Most recently\, Bady-Dorzhu Ondar teamed up with beatboxer Shodekeh in a live recording of original Tuvan songs filtered through the creative artistry of hip hop musicians. \nSAMPLE SONG \nBeyond performing\, Alash has a passion for teaching and promoting understanding between cultures. Their tours often include workshops in which they introduce Tuvan music to students in primary\, middle and high schools\, colleges\, universities\, and music conservatories. Children as young as 8 and 9 have learned to throat-sing. One inspired student exclaimed\, “Alash opened my eyes to a whole new world!” \nMade possible by The Nordlys Foundation. \nStream this show live at Caffè Lena TV. Livestream available for $5 – 100% of live stream tickets on CaffeLenaTV benefit the artists. Subscribe for unlimited live streaming\, two week access to recent shows\, and Caffe Lena’s video archive. \nNote: Caffe Lena does not permit ticket reselling above face value. SUMMARY:Geordie Greep
DESCRIPTION:Geordie Greep says\, “Music can be so much more than learning to play the same as everybody else. It can be anything you want. With recording The New Sound\, it was the first time I have had no one to answer to. Being in a band (black midi)\, we often have this ‘we can do everything’ feeling\, but you are also kind of limited in that approach\, and sometimes it’s good to do something else\, to let go of things.” \nGeordie Greep ’s debut solo album boasts a brand of high quality\, all-embracing alternative pop fun not heard in a very long time\, walking the line between the ridiculous and brilliant with a teflon-coated aplomb. \nHow the record came about is a thing to marvel at. Over thirty session musicians were involved in its making\, on two continents. Greep says\, “Half of the tracks were done in Brazil\, with local musicians pulled together at the last minute. They’d never heard anything I’d done before\, they were just interested in the demos I’d made. The tracking was all done in one\, maybe two days.” \nThe spirit of Greep’s increasingly febrile and furtive soliloquies simultaneously calls to mind both Frank Zappa and Frank Sinatra\, with a healthy dash of Scott Walker sprinkled throughout.\nThe instrumental title track is a jazz-funk workout that could double as a soundtrack for a TV series or the intro music for a Broadway musical. Brass\, wah-wah pedal and bass stabs\, choruses and polyrhythms\, all fizz and tumble around the place creating a sense of excitement and expectation. Tracks often oscillate from whispers to shouts\, and start and end on a bang. \nThe stories themselves act as a shopping list of the Active Male Imagination. A series of vignettes\, where Geordie Greep plays the role of emcee and conductor. The characters we hear from are engaged in wild fantasies and situations in which they inevitably falter. “The main theme of the record is desperation; someone who is kidding themselves that they have everything under control\, but they don’t.” Here Greep gives color to a set of imaginings which include cannibalism\, being boiled alive\, and a woman giving birth to a goat. \nStreet life is all around The New Sound: the listener is thrown into a world of cafes\, bars\, rented rooms\, cabarets and strange museums. Here we see our heroes carry out a series of naughty assignments\, military cosplay or socio-economic triumphs. The lines between parody and sermon are often blurred. The urbane romantic fantasy of single ‘Holy Holy’ tells the story of an imaginary liaison in a nightclub\, soundtracked by ’noughties indie chords and bravura Latin big band arrangements – including a three-piano attack. \nWhat next?\n“My plan is to ‘do a Keith Jarrett thing’\, have a different group of session musicians in a different place and lean into the fact that we’re not going to get it the same.” \nHow can anything ever be ‘the same’ with Greep at the helm?

SUMMARY:Donna the Buffalo
DESCRIPTION:Donna the Buffalo from Ithaca\, NY have played original roots music since 1989\, infused with elements of cajun\, rock\, folk\, reggae\, and country. \nDonna The Buffalo is from central New York state\, not Louisiana\, but this widely loved quintet has woven that joyful\, hip-shaking zydeco pulse into the DNA of its sound\, and leaders Jeb Puryear and Tara Nevins have wrapped that core vibe with hopeful\, mellow lyrics.” –Music City Roots\, Craig Havighurst \nDonna the Buffalo just passed the marker as their 25th year as a band and have proven to be a consistent purveyor of American music. What’s the recipe? To be sure\, it’s infused with more spices than you’ll find at a Cajun cookout by way of a southern-fried\, rockin’ country old-time jamboree. “For the dizzying array of styles and genres with which they work\, Donna The Buffalo maintain a surprising level of consistency. The New York-based band has played around with folk\, zydeco\, and many other musical ideas over the course of their 25-year career\, but they retain a sharp focus that has helped them create some truly lasting music\,” writes Elmore Magazine. \nDonna the Buffalo is Jeb Puryear (vocals\, electric guitar) and Tara Nevins (vocals\, guitar\, fiddle\, accordion\, scrubboard) joined by David McCracken (Hammond organ\, Honer Clavinet & piano)\, Kyle Spark (bass) and Mark Raudabaugh (drums). “It’s been really fun with this lineup\,” Puryear says. “You get to the point where you’re playing on a really high level\, things are clicking and it’s like turning on the key to a really good car. It just goes.” \n“You have to do just what you want to do\, and everyone likes different things\,” Nevins says. “Both Jeb and I come from this background of old-time fiddle music\, which is very natural\, very real\, very under-produced\, and all about coming from the gut—flying by the seat of your pants. So we have that in us\, too.” \nDonna the Buffalo debuted their first studio album in five years Tonight\, Tomorrow and Yesterday\, in the spring of 2013 via Sugar Hill Records. All Music Guide says the album\, “highlights everything this consistent band does\, and it has a warm\, live-sounding production… This is what 21st century Americana sounds like\, a little bit of this and that from anywhere wrapped up into a poignant\, jamming dance reel\, a place where the past and history meet easily in the immediate now and everybody feels like dancing.” \nDonna the Buffalo has released ten albums and are affiliated with several others\, including Puryear’s 2007 solo album Hopes and Dreams and a 2003 release\, Wait Til Spring\, with Jim Lauderdale. The band’s 2008 release Silverlined\, as well as the 2013 release (both on Sugar Hill) did well on the Americana Music Chart\, each placing well into the top ten. In 2011 Nevins released Wood and Stone\, produced by Larry Campbell in Levon Helm Studios\, and Mule to Ride in 1999 on Sugar Hill Records. \nThe group draws its inspiration from a cherished part of the American heritage: the old-time music festivals of the south that drew entire towns and counties together. “Those festivals were so explosive\, and the community and the feeling of people being with each other\, that’s the feeling we were shooting for in our music\,” Puryear says. “Donna the Buffalo is an extension of the joy we’ve found.” \nOver the years\, the band has also built a following that proudly calls itself The Herd\, along with a well-deserved reputation for crafting social narratives and slipstream grooves without equal. To merely call this “roots music” does it disservice\, for the roots nurtured by Puryear and Nevins run wild\, deep and strong—a tribute to how much Donna the Buffalo marries musical trailblazing and tradition. \n“It’s a great feeling to promote such a feeling of community\, like you’re really part of something that’s happening\, like a movement or a positive force…” Nevins says\, “All those people that come and follow you and you recognize them and you become friends with them — you’re all moving along for the same purpose. It is powerful. It’s very powerful\, actually.” \nAs an expansion of this community and the band’s own dedication to live roots music\, Donna started\, and are still the driving force behind\, the twenty-five year old Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival of Music and Dance in Trumansburg\, NY\, the bi-annual Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival in Silk Hope\, NC and the Virginia Key GrassRoots Festival in Miami\, FL. DtB are regulars at MerleFest (NC)\, Suwannee Springfest & Magnolia Fest (FL)\, All Good (WV)\, FloydFest (VA)\, The Great Blue Heron Festival (NY)\, Del Fest (MD)\, Rhythm & Roots Festival (RI)\, Targhee Bluegrass Fest (WY) as well as a variety of other venues and festivals across the nation. \nDonna the Buffalo has toured the nation for over twenty five years with an ever-evolving grassroots sound and plans to keep on doing so for many years to come. \nDonna The Buffalo is not just a band\, rather one might say that Donna The Buffalo has become a lifestyle for its members and audiences. Since 1989\, the roots rockers have played thousands of shows and countless festivals including Bonnaroo\, Newport Folk Festival\, Telluride\, Austin City Limits Festival\, Merle Fest\, and Philadelphia Folk Festival.  They’ve opened for The Dead and have toured with Peter Rowan\, Del McCoury\, Los Lobos\, Little Feat\, Jim Lauderdale\, Rusted Root\, and Railroad Earth to name a few. They also toured with Ben Jerry’s co-founder Ben Cohen to help raise awareness about increased corporate spending in politics.  In 1991\,the band started the Finger Lakes Grassroots Festival in Trumansburg\, NY. The four day festival has become an annual destination for over 15\,000 music lovers every year and was started as an AIDS benefit. It continues as a benefit for arts and education. To date\, the event has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars and is now one of three Grassroots Festivals; the Bi-annual Shakori Hills fest in North Carolina and Virginia Key festival in Florida. In 2016 GrassRoots Culture Camp was introduced in Trumansburg\, New York as four days of music\, art\, dance and movement workshops\, including nightly dinners and dances. \nTake a look at their official music videos: \n“Working On That” -> http://bit.ly/1eXPofS \n“I Love My Tribe” -> http://bit.ly/1i9fy9Q \nFor more information and tour dates\, please visit www.donnathebuffalo.com \nfacebook.com/donnathebuffalo and twitter.com/donnathebuffalo \n
